what does the quote from page 38 mean?

Well we have stories, but we don't real remember the memory of it, so stories can helps us remember somethings, even if the memory is long gone, some one will remember the story the memory within the story. I have to agree with this quote, because there are a lot of things I don't remember, but because of stories told over and over again, I remember those, sure they might not have the whole truth but it has most of the truth.
