is it okay to lie to protect someone's feelings?

it's depends of the case, if someone walks up to you on the street and asks you questions I would say it's okay to lie, but if it's something else then you should, because if you don't tell them now, they will find out later in life and they will be madder at you then, then if you told them when you found out.
