Why does he put moments of beauty in the novel?

I think he does this so that is doesn't seem as dark, and to put perspective into the book. I think he puts moments of beauty into, because war has so beauty moment, there are times where you see things that sure to some people wouldn't be beautiful, but to other they are. There are times in the book, where I will read a passage and I can imagine what it would look like, what it could have been like.
